Olivia is a dedicated children’s practitioner. Her specialism is care proceedings, representing local authorities, parents and children.
Olivia’s most recent experience includes representing a local authority at an eight day fact-finding hearing. The proceedings involved expert evidence, intervening parties and children giving evidence. Within the proceedings, Olivia secured an interim care order to enable a child to travel overseas on a school trip.
Olivia is also familiar with Human Rights Act claims arising from care proceedings, particularly the use and misuse of Section 20 accommodation. She has drafted schedules of findings and skeleton arguments in respect of these claims.
Olivia in often instructed in complex private law matters. She recently represented a mother in a same-sex private law matter which centered around the grant of parental responsibility to the non-biological mother. She is familiar with HEFA 1990 and 2008 and has a particular interest in the law as it relates to modern families and same-sex couples.
Olivia is also interested in cases with an international element. She recently received funding from the FLBA to attend the Polish-English Bar Conference in Warsaw. Olivia is currently instructed to represent Polish clients within care proceedings.
Olivia has appeared in the High Court on a number of occasions. She has secured location and collections orders for local authorities, and has also been instructed in injunctive proceedings involving medical treatment and Brussels II Revised.
Olivia is a warm and friendly practitioner who prides herself on her ability to form strong working relationships with clients.
Before coming to the bar, Olivia worked at the Women’s Legal Centre in South Africa where she assisted the inquiry into sexual violence in one of South Africa’s largest townships and researched and drafted requests to the African Court of Human Rights.
